Antonio Cassese Prize for International Criminal Law Studies Announcement and Regulations

Antonio Cassese Prize for International Criminal Law Studies Regulations

Antonio Cassese Prize for International Criminal Law Studies

Regulations

  1. The Journal 's Editorial Assistant will draw up a list of all those eligible, on account of their expressed intention to be considered for this award, as well as their not belonging (at present or in the past) to the Board of Editors or the Advisory Board. She will then circulate the list to all members of the Board of Editors.
  2. The Managing Editors, together with the Chairman of the Editorial Committee and the Editor-in-chief, may draw up a short-list for consideration by all other members of the Board of Editors. The short-list, which should offer grounds for selection, shall not be binding and any member of the Board of Editors may select one or more persons not included in the list.
  3. Each member of the Board of Editors shall propose two or three names, in order of merit, and provide reasons for the selection.
  4. If no eligible author is considered to have published an original and innovative paper in the two years under consideration, the Prize will not be awarded, and will instead be postponed to the end of the next calendar year.
  5. If, however, a majority of editors concludes that two or more papers are of high quality and make an original contribution, the authors who obtain the highest number of votes will be selected as candidates for the Prize and invited to submit a proposal for a research project, a publication project or a project for further studies in international criminal law.
  6. The projects submitted by the short-listed authors will be circulated among the members of the Board of Editors, who in their turn will then circulate their ranking of the projects, giving reasons for their choice.
  7. If the projects are not considered to be suitable or up to the required standard, the authors may be requested to revise and re-submit these for further consideration by the Board.
  8. The author whose project has received the highest number of votes shall be awarded the Prize. His or her name, the grounds on which the Prize has been awarded, and the contents and purpose of the project shall then be made public in the Journal. In the event of a tied vote at this stage, the Board may decide to award the prize ex aequo to the candidates.
  9. The Prize may be paid in one or more instalments on the basis of specific clauses to be negotiated between the Editor-in-chief and the recipient of the Prize, prior to the start of the project for which the award is granted; these clauses may establish that payment be contingent upon the achievement of one or more specific steps (such as enrolment in a Masters programme or post-graduate course, periodic reports to the Editor-in-chief on progress, or publication of the results of research undertaken).
  10. The project must be carried out within two years of the commencement of the activities for which the award is granted. Recipients will be invited to submit a detailed report on the outcome of the project to the Board of Editors.
