Victims have the right under Cambodian law to participate in the Cambodian Extraordinary Chambers trials. The manner in which they will exercise this right remains unsettled, but will affect whether these trials are eventually fair, their impact on national reconciliation, and the establishment of precedents for future Cambodian litigation. The exercise of victims rights should be adapted to the context of trials for mass crimes, affecting victim participation, representation, protection and reparation.
